Americans Unmasked, Americans Die

Americans Unmasked, Americans Die

Hello everybody. I have something to say about the masking of America.

I watched the most recent news coverage of the pandemic. And that virus is just going crazy right now, especially in the south and southeast. Half the states are seeing big spikes in infections and hospitalizations.

Medical scientists all say the best way to control the virus is for everybody to wear masks. But everybody is not. I have my own unofficial reporters throughout the country, and they say a lot of people aren’t wearing them. And you know we haven’t seen President Trump and Vice President Pence covering their faces. Why not? Is it some kind of machismo? They’re so strong and manly they don’t need masks? Give me a break.

They say we’re in for a rough six months. Where is the leadership? If the universal wearing of a mask can help control coronavirus, shouldn’t the president be promoting the practice every chance he can. Maybe there should be a fine of at least $100 for people caught in public spaces without a mask. We have to wear seatbelts.

I know, the face coverings are ugly, uncomfortable and hot. But that’s gotta be better than getting sick or dying.  Let’s beat this virus. Come on America. Mask up.

Until next time.

Snoop Dogg vs. Gayle King

Snoop Dogg vs. Gayle King

Hello Everybody. I have something to say about the Snoop Dogg/Gayle King controversy.

Although, I don’t know Gayle King, I consider her a sister because we were both black female TV journalists. As a host of CBS This Morning, Gayle is one of the highest-ranking women in network television. But the tragic death of basketball legend Kobe Bryant made the worlds of Gayle King and rapper Snoop Dogg, collide.

Gayle did her job and asked a guest on her show, all kinds of questions about Kobe, including one about sexual assault charges that were dropped against him in 2003. It’s a question I would have asked.  Well, Snoop Dogg, who was Kobe’s friend, saw that part of the interview and he went off.

He made a profane video, calling Gayle a “funky dog-head bitch,” for hurting Kobe’s reputation. He warned her to back off, and said, “before we come and get you.”  Social media was flooded with posts supporting Snoop and hating on Gayle.

Gayle had a rough time. She fears for her life and has been traveling with bodyguards. A journalist viciously attacked by a rapper for simply doing her job.

A week after Snoop Dogg left Gayle blowing in the wind, he apologized, saying he over-reacted and didn’t mean to disrespect her. But the damage had been done. But I’m not so sure he’s really sorry for what he did.

He says after they had a talk, his Momma made him do it.

See you next time.

A Vicious White House Celebration

A Vicious White House Celebration

Hello Everybody…I have something to say about Trump’s acquittal celebration at the White House.

I told you he wouldn’t be found guilty of abusing his power and obstructing Congress. I told you. Senate Republicans saw to that, and even though some of them said after the trial that Trump had done something bad, it wasn’t bad enough to remove him from office. Oh, really. I believe many Senate Republicans think Trump was guilty but they wouldn’t vote that way. They’re scared to death of Trump.

At the White House, did the president show the slightest remorse for putting the country through the nightmare of his impeachment? Hell, no. He spent an hour giving a rambling, dissembled and hate-filled speech. It wasn’t a speech, it was just words, random paragraphs about all kinds of things.  Like how he was a victim and yet, the best president we ever who did so much for the country. But most of the time was used to viciously attack Nancy Pelosi, the House Democrats who impeached him, oh, and the FBI.

Folks, I have great fear that Donald Trump feels that he can now do whatever he wants, whenever he wants without impunity. We may have created a dictator, a monster.

Until next time.

Impeachment Crazy

Impeachment Crazy

Hello Everyone:

I have something to say about Donald Trump’s Impeachment Trial. It’s Crazy Town.

I have watched many hours of the coverage. I heard the Democratic House Managers lay out their case against the President. They made compelling arguments that Trump should be removed from office because he abused his power and obstructed Congress. They had evidence. And Congressman Adam Schiff was eloquent.

And then I watched Trump’s defense lawyers lay out their case for Trump to remain in office because he didn’t do anything wrong. He didn’t abuse his power because he is all-powerful. Oh, really. But they had no evidence. They tried to mount scholarly arguments that the impeachment law didn’t apply to Trump, and they also lied. Why not, they represent Trump and he lies all the time.

It’s all too sad. Because witnesses or not, the fix is in. The Republican Senators, like lemmings, will follow Mitch McConnell into the sea. Trump will remain in office.

And who’s going to suffer over the next eight or nine months of his term—maybe even four more years? We will. The American people. And our country.

If that’s not what you want, then you better get out there and vote. Not only in November but in your primaries and caucuses that will be coming up.

            See you next time.

2019 Top Ten List

2019 Top Ten List

Happy New Year, Everybody!

I have something to say about 2019. Everybody has a top ten list. Since I am a wise old woman, I compiled mine.

My whole year seemed consumed with all things Donald Trump. But Number One on my list is his impeachment in December. Finally, somebody told him, no more.

Number Two was seeing old women leaders exercise power, like House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Congresswoman Maxine Waters, Senator Elizabeth Warren and the best Supreme, Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

Similarly, young women showed their muscle and that’s my Number Three. The four Congresswomen of color, known as the Squad, shook up the old white men in Congress, who didn’t much like their chutzpah. And Katie Bouman, the young scientist who helped make possible the image we saw of a Black Hole.

Number Five is youth activism. Greta Thunberg and youth across the planet have taken on the fight for climate change and American teenagers continue to protest gun violence.

The MeToo Movement was my Number Six. The resistance gained traction that led to new laws and corporate policies against sexual harassment and sexual assault.

I joined a huge gathering of some of the most successful, brilliant, and celebrated African Americans in the country. My Number Seven was the History Makers, an important reminder of the contributions that black people have made and continue to make to our communities and the nation.

Like any wise old woman, I feel compelled to speak about some personal things that happened in 2019.

My Number Seven is retirement ain’t all it’s cracked up to be. After 62 years of non-stop working, I retired in 2019, not because I wanted to, I was given a push. I realized that I love to work, so I started this blog.

Children and grandchildren are Number Eight. My son and daughter are both happily married and enjoying their careers, and nothing is better than watching my three grandchildren grow and learn. My best times are spent with them.

Number Nine is my health. I’m grateful to still have most of it. I do what the doctors say, wear sensible shoes and grab handrails.

Now Number Ten may seem inconsequential but it’s not. It’s my pets—my toy poodle Coco-Puff and my Siberian cat, Catarina. They are my home companions. They are glad to see me, happy to cuddle and don’t talk back. They made 2019 tolerable. 2020 may be pretty rough. I expect them to ease the pain.

The best to you all.

Men Exposed

Men Exposed

Hello Everybody.  I have something to say about the exposure of male genitalia.

I can’t believe that I just said that and that I’m going to talk about it.  But someone should. And since I’m a wise old woman, it may as well be me. I was reminded of the issue when Ronan Farrow’s book was released detailing the alleged sexual assaults on women by Harvey Weinstein and Matt Lauer. They both apparently exposed themselves to women.  And of course, there was former New York Congressman Anthony Weiner, who sent pictures of his manhood to women on social media.

I have to tell you I just don’t get it. Why do men think women want to see their private parts? From all the women I know, of many ages, they would just as soon not see them. Men, even though you may think your stuff is attractive and irresistible, the average woman does not agree.

I did some research. Yes, there are studies. They showed that men who often exhibit themselves have big egos and are proud of what they’ve got and want to show it off. They use that to exercise power and dominance over women. They tend to be sexist and disrespectful of women.

Men, have you ever heard of a magazine for women that features images of male genitals? There aren’t any.  No market for it.  Women don’t want to see that. So, keep your stuff to yourself and in your pants zipped up, until–if you’re lucky–some woman wants the visual. But if I were you, I wouldn’t  hold my breath.

Trumpers Are Scared People

Trumpers Are Scared People

Hello Everybody. I have something to say not about Trumpers but to Trumpers. And  Trumpers would be the almost 50 percent of Americans, who incredibly support Donald Trump no matter what he does. And it includes just about every Republican in Congress who do everything they can to protect Trump and keep him in office.

What the hell is  wrong with you people? Do you read? Do you listen? Do you think, really think?  I truly don’t get it. How in the world can you support the president, who is crude, rude, corrupt, lying, vindictive, semi-literate and demented? What would he have to do to lose your loyalty?  Kill somebody? You’d probably say he or she had it coming. And Trump believes he could get away with murder. He said as much himself. Trump Is already trying to kill our democracy, and he’s killed America’s image around the world and killed whatever unity we may have had as a country.

I’ve heard some of you interviewed. Oh, he’s improved the economy. He understands how I feel. He’s not an elite, professional politician. He’s keeping illegals out of the country. But I don’t hear any of you say you support him because he’s a racist, or because he’s a misogynist. You won’t say that. You’re scared. You don’t  want  white people over run by black and brown people and uppity women in charge. That’s why you support Trump.

But tell me this. Is Donald Trump so great that you would want one of your children to grow up and be just like him? Think about it.  A child just like Donald Trump.

Until next time.

Good Riddance to Sarah Huckabee Sanders

Good Riddance to Sarah Huckabee Sanders

Hello Everybody.

I have something to say about Sarah Huckabee Sanders. Sarah, Sarah, Sarah. Yes, go home to Arkansas because all you did was make the job of White House PressSecretary a mockery. Only three women have held that vaunted position, but you took it and destroyed it.

Oh, I know her beloved President Trump, was behind it because he hates the press. But she marched in lockstep with him. And who suffered the most? The American people she swore to serve.

She was supposed to give on a daily basis, pertinent and truthful information to the White House press corps so they could in turn, report the news to the public. But she just stopped talking to the press in any formal way and left that to the President. She used the White House driveway to dribble out a few answers to waiting reporters. And the worst? She lied.

Trump thinks she should run for governor of Arkansas. It is one of the poorest, hungriest and least educated states in the country. Sarah—got any good ideas on improving Arkansas? I didn’t think so. So long Sarah, Huckabee Sanders, and thanks for nothing.
