Trump Has Gotta Go, Now!

Hello Everybody.

I have something to say about 2021.  Yes, already. After only a few days of it.  It’s not turning out to be the better year we prayed for. 2021 is so far—between Trump and the pandemic–just a frightful continuation of 2020.

On January 6th—another American day that will live in infamy—I was so happy in the morning.  In Georgia, the two Democrats won Senate seats and the state turned true blue. I was so happy. My people are from Georgia.

By the afternoon, my hopes for America’s political future were dashed when I watched the violence and mayhem at the US Capitol. The armed assault on the People’s House.  Never, have I ever…never.  I fought back the impulses to cry and to throw up. American-grown terrorists scaled the walls—they disbanded the Congress.

Trump caused this. He begged his supporters, including white nationalists, to come to Washington and fight—fight for him to remain president. He sent them to the Capitol. That creep, that idiot, that crazy man. Now he has blood on his hands. He’s got to go. Not by Biden’s inauguration, but now. Somebody figure out how to do that, but get it done. He’s more dangerous to America than ever.

2020 Election Dilemma

Hello, Everybody:

I have something to say about the Presidential Election.

I have personally vilified Donald Trump for his actions, words and deeds, ever since I began this video blog more than a year ago. To me, he was one of the worst things, one of the worst people to ever happen to the United States.

Needless to say, I was overjoyed when Joe Biden was declared president-elect.

Trump may be able to take some comfort in the fact that the race was close, very close.  But that’s what has me stumped. In this election, voter turnout was the highest it has ever been. 75 million votes for Biden, more than 70 million for Trump. How is that possible? Almost half the votes going to Trump?  While everybody I know was celebrating the Biden win—there must have been nearly as many people angry and sad about Trump’s loss.

Who are these people who voted for a president who lied, cheated, was mean and hateful, and incompetent and was INCOMPETENT? Were Trump voters fine with how he handled the pandemic? Please.

The president-elect has one heckuva a job in front of him, bringing the American people together.  All I can say is, “Good luck, Joe. You’re gonna need it.”

No friendly hello this time, my fellow Americans. This is a 5-alarm fire. It’s Defcon 5.  It’s code red. It’s time to scream:  WTF?

       If you haven’t watched the news in the past few days, then you don’t know that Donald Trump is planning to hurl this country into the biggest constitutional crisis the US has ever seen. He would destroy our democracy to avoid losing the election to Joe Biden. He’s so sick and power-hungry that he wants to install himself as the supreme leader for life. An American dictator. To him, rules do not apply.

        So, what is he up to? He’s saying the Democrats are trying to rig the election with mail in ballots. If Biden wins, he will say the election was stolen from him.  He indicates he may not leave office. He’ll just remain president. Never in the 244 years of our history has a president dared to pull such a stunt. Trump can’t do that. The people decide with their votes who will be president.

      Why all the alarms I was setting off? Because some historians say this could lead to America’s Second civil war. The country is so divided. Some of Trump’s supporters are gun-totin’ white nationalists who have been itching for years for a race war. Oh, and would Russian President Putin invade to help his old pal, Trump? And all of this during racial tensions and a pandemic.

       What can you do? On November 3rd, you have got to vote, you and everybody you know. You have got to let your political leaders know that you will vote against them if they don’t denounce Trump’s shenanigans. Folks this is deadly serious. It’s just about as bad as it can get.

Government for The People, Not for Trump

Hello Everybody.  I have something to say about Trump’s assault on our democratic form of government. I want to prove my case and in order to do that, I must put on my Civics professor hat.

      The Founders of our country established a government with three equal branches. The first is the legislative branch, the Congress made up of the House and Senate. As representatives of the people, the legislators make the laws and appropriate the money needed to pay for the government’s expenses.

       The second branch is the Executive Branch, made up of the President and his Cabinet and all the government apparatus and 5 million employees needed to enforce the laws that Congress passes.

       The third branch is the judicial branch which is made up of the federal court system and the Supreme Court. They interpret the laws based on what the Constitution says or implies.

       No branch is more important than the others. The system was designed to create a balance of powers.

       But we have a situation today, where for the first time in history, we have an executive, a president, who would be king of the United States. He is usurping the powers of the other branches. He wants to be the Supreme Power like his old pal, Russian President Putin.

        For example, Trump took 3.8 billion dollars, money Congress approved for the defense department, and is using it to his border wall. Congress wanted his tax returns and subpoenaed his staff to interview about White House scandals, and he just said “No.” He dismisses Congress as if it was nothing.  And recently he’s been intruding into the judicial branch claiming his good buddy, Roger Stone, who was convicted of lying and jury tampering, should not go to jail for 7 years as recommended by the courts. It’s expected his Justice Department will reduce the sentence.

       This is dangerous, folks. Trump is trying to take over all three branches of the government. And he’s got a lot of help. The Republicans and his executive branch cronies.  Lincoln said our government was created of the people, by the people, and for the people. Don’t let Donald Trump destroy it.

A Vicious White House Celebration

Hello Everybody…I have something to say about Trump’s acquittal celebration at the White House.

I told you he wouldn’t be found guilty of abusing his power and obstructing Congress. I told you. Senate Republicans saw to that, and even though some of them said after the trial that Trump had done something bad, it wasn’t bad enough to remove him from office. Oh, really. I believe many Senate Republicans think Trump was guilty but they wouldn’t vote that way. They’re scared to death of Trump.

At the White House, did the president show the slightest remorse for putting the country through the nightmare of his impeachment? Hell, no. He spent an hour giving a rambling, dissembled and hate-filled speech. It wasn’t a speech, it was just words, random paragraphs about all kinds of things.  Like how he was a victim and yet, the best president we ever who did so much for the country. But most of the time was used to viciously attack Nancy Pelosi, the House Democrats who impeached him, oh, and the FBI.

Folks, I have great fear that Donald Trump feels that he can now do whatever he wants, whenever he wants without impunity. We may have created a dictator, a monster.

Impeachment Crazy

Hello Everyone:

      I have something to say about Donald Trump’s Impeachment Trial. It’s Crazy Town.       

      I have watched many hours of the coverage. I heard the Democratic House Managers lay out their case against the President. They made compelling arguments that Trump should be removed from office because he abused his power and obstructed Congress. They had evidence. And Congressman Adam Schiff was eloquent.

       And then I watched Trump’s defense lawyers lay out their case for Trump to remain in office because he didn’t do anything wrong. He didn’t abuse his power because he is all-powerful. Oh, really. But they had no evidence. They tried to mount scholarly arguments that the impeachment law didn’t apply to Trump, and they also lied. Why not, they represent Trump and he lies all the time.

      It’s all too sad. Because witnesses or not, the fix is in. The Republican Senators, like lemmings, will follow Mitch McConnell into the sea. Trump will remain in office.

            And who’s going to suffer over the next eight or nine months of his term—maybe even four more years? We will. The American people. And our country.

            If that’s not what you want, then you better get out there and vote. Not only in November but in your primaries and caucuses that will be coming up.

How Does an Impeachment Trial Work?

Hello Everybody. I have something to say about how the Trump impeachment trial will work. I found out some friends were confused about what the House and Senate are doing.

        As a former civics teacher, who knows firsthand about the sorry state of civics education in America, I thought I’d offer a simple explanation to everyone.

        First of all, remember that this is a trial. Think of President Donald Trump as the defendant. He has been charged with committing crimes: obstructing justice and obstructing Congress.  Who made the charges? The House of Representatives, who voted in December to impeach Trump. They found him guilty.           

        The impeachment case then moved to the Senate, for trial. A real trial. Several House members will act as the prosecuting attorneys. They will present their case against the President to all 100 members of the Senate. The Senators are the jury and at the end of the case they will vote on whether to remove Trump from office. The President, like any accused person, will have a team of White House lawyers who will act as his defense attorneys.

         Presiding over the trial is the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court John Roberts. He serves as the Judge. Sustaining or overruling objections and maintaining order.

         How an impeachment trial should be conducted was established more than 213 years ago by the Founders and enshrined in the U.S. Constitution. Got it? Got it.

Christmas Time Blues

Hello everybody. I have something to say about all the flurry over impeachment this Christmas season. To be honest, I don’t have anything to say about it. Because I don’t know what to say. Except, I’ve got the Christmastime blues. Never felt like this.

       I should be glad that House Democrats got around to writing articles of impeachment. I think Donald Trump has been a bad president. He’s done everything he wants to undermine our democracy. He should be impeached and the House will vote that way just before Christmas. A nice present? Yes, but only momentarily.

       After the New Year, the case goes to the Senate for trial. There will never be enough votes to kick him out of office. The Republicans will see to that. So, he will remain president all next year. And he’ll run again in the November…AND he may be re-elected, God forbid.       

      So, these are the thoughts hanging over my holidays.  You know what, I’ve even messed up the famous Dickens’ tale, A Christmas Carol.  Trump is Scrooge, because he’s rich and doesn’t care about poor people; and he’s also the Ghost of Christmas past 2016, when he got elected and there were shenanigans; the ghost of Christmas present 2019, when shenanigans are still going on; and the ghost of Christmas future 2020. Oh, Lord have mercy on us all.
